Most people would expect their electricity bills to consist of the cost of generating electricity, supplier operating costs and profit margin, and tax. However there is another cost category which is very significant, known as “non-commodity costs”. These amount to about 45% of electricity bills and consist of costs that are specific to the electricity market but that are not based on the cost of electricity itself.
This course describes each of these non-commodity costs in detail.
