Trading in the wholesale electricity markets

Please sign up for the course before starting the lesson.

When NETA was introduced, the electricity market was characterised by large units of generation connected to the national transmission system. These generators sold the electricity they produced through Power Purchase Agreements,
Tolling Agreements, or through wholesale market trading. The bulk of the generation would be sold through one of the first two methods with the traded markets being largely used for adjusting position close to delivery.

This lesson describes these different approaches to trading.
