The Warm Home Discount (“WHD”) scheme, first introduced in 2011, places a legal obligation on larger energy suppliers to deliver support to people living in fuel poverty or in a fuel poverty risk group. It is a one-off payment of £140 applied the electricity bills of eligible customers sometime between October and April, which has been designed to help reduce costs for those living on a low incomes or pensions over the winter months.

This lesson describes the Warm Homes Discount, a welfare measure distributed by suppliers to eligible consumers.
